We are delighted to introduce ONKOSTAR 3! The new version is built on the latest technologies and includes numerous improvements and features designed to make your daily work more efficient, more modern, and future-proof.
Comprehensive technological renewal for maximum future-readiness
ONKOSTAR 3 has undergone a fundamental technological overhaul to provide you with a powerful, future-proof platform. By updating the libraries and frameworks used – such as Java and Hibernate – as well as the system components Tomcat and MariaDB, ONKOSTAR 3 is built on state-of-the-art technology. This comprehensive modernization ensures maximum stability and security – even if you don’t notice these changes directly in day-to-day use.
Modernized user interface and patient record
ONKOSTAR 3 features a modernized user interface. At the heart of the redesign is a newly structured navigation within the patient record. The new, modular menu offers you greater flexibility and customizability, and forms the foundation for future enhancements.
In addition, navigation for tumor diseases has been revised to give you faster, more intuitive access to relevant information.
These changes improve your daily work and lay the groundwork for future enhancements.
State cancer registry reports: Data from the state cancer registries
ONKOSTAR 3 enables the import of status information for your own submitted reports. Depending on the cancer registry, this information can, for example, be exported from the reporting portal and then added to ONKOSTAR. This feature streamlines the processing of feedback and enables extended analyses.
As soon as the cancer registries make this possible, reporting information from other reporting parties will also be imported into ONKOSTAR and made available in a new section of the patient record for data import. ONKOSTAR 3 already provides the essential tools for this step.
Institution record: Managing medical institutions
New in ONKOSTAR 3 is the institution record. Going forward, not only patient data but also institutional data can be managed in separate records. This opens up new possibilities for using and controlling the application – for example, with center records, in which all information for a DKG-certified center is consolidated into a single record.
Enhanced analysis and evaluation capabilities
Take advantage of modern, interactive analytics! ONKOSTAR 3 integrates “Shiny for R,” enabling in-depth analyses directly within the application through new, dynamic R applications. With a new Shiny module, you can also integrate your own R applications directly into ONKOSTAR.
New bulk-editing features in Research
With the new bulk-editing feature in research, you can now make changes more efficiently and with less time invested.
Even more flexibility and customization
With ONKOSTAR 3, and with our support, you can make ONKOSTAR even more your own.
The application now allows you to capture custom objects in your own records or configure custom widgets, tailoring ONKOSTAR precisely to your needs. This flexibility helps you create solutions custom-built for your workflows.

With its modernized system components, ONKOSTAR 3 is the basis for future development and already lays the groundwork for upcoming, innovative enhancements – including in the areas of:

The end of ONKOSTAR 2: What you need to know
As support for key system components is being phased out, ONKOSTAR 2 is approaching the end of its software lifecycle. Because the underlying technologies are limited to Java version 17, among other things, the application is tied to Tomcat 9 support, whose end-of-life (EOL) is scheduled for 2026.
Until that point, we will continue to provide maintenance and support services, ensuring that cancer registry reporting and certifications remain possible. The exchange of forms between ONKOSTAR 2 and ONKOSTAR 3 will continue to be supported – with the exception of new form features introduced in ONKOSTAR 3. No new features or further development of existing application areas are planned.
We recommend switching to ONKOSTAR 3 to benefit from the latest technologies and features and to ensure long-term support.
The transition from ONKOSTAR 2 to 3
When you switch to ONKOSTAR 3, your existing ONKOSTAR installation is updated on your current IT infrastructure. No data is lost in the process, nor does any data need to be migrated or transformed.
New system components are not required, and any existing ones will be brought up to date by us during the upgrade.
As part of a personal notification, we will inform you of the one-time costs for your transition.
